Adventurer Leaders attending this training receive credit towards the NAD Certification for Adventurer leadership. These sessions will take place during every breakout session, with additional sessions taking place Sunday morning.

Audio Visual Technology

This seminar will meet at 3:30, 4:30 and 6 p.m. in Theilman (Wilson Suite).

  1. Audio Fundamentals: The physics behind what we hear, the basic tools we can use to manipulate sound, and the auxiliary equipment that makes a pristine sound system tick.

  2. Best Audio Practices and Applications: Ground loops, noise, feedback, distortion, imbalanced mixes, harsh sound – and how you can fix those problems, improve your results, and more. 

  3. Audio Gear & How to Upgrade: Speakers, microphones, wireless tech, audio mixers, and cables. The spec sheets and how to read them. The "audio brand conscious," mantra, and what really matters. How you can mindfully upgrade your church's sound system.

Steven Chilson is an alumnus of Maplewood Academy, where he discovered his love for music technology. After MWA, he went on to graduate from the audio video systems technology department of Ridgewater College. He has 5 years of experience as an audio visual technician and is currently employed at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel.

Bullying Prevention Training

Mindy Salyers will be presenting in the Marsh Room, which is part of the Herberger Suite. She will share two different presentations on Child Safety and Bullying Prevention at 4:30 and 6:00 p.m.  These topics will be geared towards the Pathfinder leadership audience, but anyone interested in these topics are welcome to attend.

Mindy Salyers is an Adventist Educator and licensed School Counselor. She has spent her career invested in young people, through academy and collegiate residence hall deaning, student academic and emotional support services, and most recently as the Interim Superintendent of Education for the Minnesota Conference. Certified in the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program, she works in both the public sector and across the North American Division to train students and educators.

Children's Ministries

Gerry Lopez will be presenting in Swisshelm, which is part of the Stockinger Suite. We will be offering four session from the NAD's track titled "Reaching Pastors & Elders, Track 7" as follows:

  • Brief History of Children's Ministries

  • Job Description of the Children's Ministry Coordinator

  • Organizing the Children's Ministries Committee

  • Children's Ministries Programs for the Local Church

Gerry Lopez is the Associate Director of Children's Ministires at the North American Division. Gerry understands the importance of a strong and visible children’s ministry in churches; he feels the future existence of the church depends on it. Gerry has enjoyed working in children’s ministry for more than 14 years as a youth pastor, children’s ministry pastor, and elementary school chaplain. Gerry loves equipping and empowering children’s ministry leaders.

Clerk Training - eAdventist

There will be two sessions: one focused on the spiritual impact of maintaining strong church records, and one on the implementation of eAdventist. These seminars will meet at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Edelbrock (Opportunities).

Brian Ford has worked on eAdventist since it launched in 2002. He, his favorite wife and 3 daughters live in Washington state and he serves as an Assistant Dir of IT Services for the NAD. In his free time, he loves to play guitar, backpack or read.


Brenda will be presenting on Tips and Tools for Church Communication. She will be presenting at 4:30 p.m. in Board Room B.

Brenda Dickerson is the Director of Communication for the Mid-America Union Conference. In addition to reading, gardening and spending time with family, Brenda enjoys collaborating with the many talented photographers, designers, writers and readers who help keep OUTLOOK’s product suite strong and relevant.


This seminar, titled "Facebook: Friend or Foe of Mission?", will be presented at 6:00 p.m. in Board Room B.

Hugh Davis, a digital media strategist with over 18 years of professional experience, joined the Mid-America Union Conference Communication Department in January of, 2019. His responsibilities include managing the union’s two websites, producing the weekly myOUTLOOK e-newsletter, producing videos and podcasts, and overseeing all the union’s social media platforms. Davis’ career in digital media spans the sectors of healthcare, education and city government.

Conflict Resolution

There will be two breakout sessions focused on conflict resolution. These will meet at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. in Terry Haws C.

Deacons & Deaconesses

There will be two sessions focused on the role of deacons & deaconesses. 

  1. Deacons: Presented by Stan Wilkinson. Church maintenance or church service on par with the elders?  This presentation will look at the Biblical role of deacons and compare it to our views and practices today. How can we change the role of our deacons so they get back to the Biblical model? @  Shilplin (Stockinger Suite) 4:30 p.m.

  2. Deaconesses: Presented by Doug Hardt @ Shilplin (Stockinger Suite) 6:00 p.m.

Stan Wilkinson is the pastor of the Christ our Righteousness, Duluth and Grand Marais Seventh-day Adventist Churches. Doug Hardt is the pastor of the Iron Range District, which includes five congregations. Both pastor in the Minnesota Conference and have a passion for Biblically-based, relational ministry.

Denominational Structure and Governance

This session will address how and why the church is structured, and the implication to you at the local church level. This presentation will take place at 6:00 p.m. in Terry Haws C.
